Intel Core 'Ivy Bridge-E' and its evolution with respect to 'Sandy Bridge-E', first data

Ivy Bridge-E mockup

We could say that "the countdown" for the launch of Ivy Bridge-E has begun. Officially there is no information, but all rumors suggest that it will come in the second half of the year, a time after the Haswell expected for the month of June.

Ivy Bridge-E will be the platform of high performance at the domestic level of the American company. His predecessors. Few details are known of them and of course the comparison with Sandy Bridge-E, the current generation, is a must. What percentage of improvement. will get Intel?

Coolaler Ivy Bridge E benchmarks

Then this week a user of Coolaler has uploaded some benchmarks made both with the i7 - 4960 X as with the i7 - 3970 X. The first one will be the most powerful IB-E and the second is the most powerful current SB-E, both working with LGA2011 socket and on the same computer. The results show an improvement in the yield of 7% on average, varying in the range between 5 and 12% according to the executed test. It is a remarkable improvement? It is significant, though not surprising, even though we have to take into account that these tests, if real, have been carried out with pre-production of CPU and motherboard models which will not be final versions, and quite possibly receive some improvement here to its final release software.

These are the first data of the performance but certainly not the last. Traditionally improvement provided by a new generation of CPU is usually placed between 10 and 15% with respect to the former, so the margin of evolution is still wide. When will we know it? When submitted officially, according to many in the month of November.
